Chipping Norton based singer songwriter Dave Oakley has been writing songs and performing in pubs and clubs ever since first nervously treading the boards at the Zap Club in Brighton in 1986. Dave made his London debut at God’s Little Joke, an open mic at the Bull’s Head, Clapham in 1990. Playing the Troubadour and the Mean Fiddler followed soon afterwards as well as playing support for Jungr and Parker at the Watermans Arts Centre, Brentford.
Moving to Bristol in 2000 Dave began supporting some of the great artists performing at the Albert Hole in Bedminster including Texan singer Kate Campbell, the great fiddle player Tom McConville and the great Dick Gaughan. Dave has also played sets at the Priddy Folk Festival and numerous other pubs and clubs in the south west.
The new album BOTH SIDES OF THE WALL was released in 2011. It is a fine collection of songs written over the last 3 years, dealing with subjects such as the Berlin Wall, a well known French film actress and of course, death. The album was recorded and produced at the retrokennel by none other than retrodog himself, a man of many talents, a musician and recording engineer of some genius.
